My Personal Motto is "Mens Sana In Corpore Sano." That is a Latin proverb that means "in a healthy body, a healthy mind." I believe in that motto so much that I have it stamped on the inside of my right arm. It's a constant reminder that in order to live healthy one must think healthy. My objective goal in life is to not only talk the talk but walk the walk. After all, "it is not fair to ask of others what you are unwilling to do yourself" (Eleanor Rossevelt).
Now about me, I have been involved with sports and fitness since I was a little girl (tomboy). I don't remember a day going by as a kid that I wasn't outside playing basketball, football, or some kind of competitive game with the neighborhood boys. Being active is engrained in my DNA, and I will never stop moving. Never.
I played competitive basketball from the age of 8 until I was in my early 20's, where I played briefly for a small DIII university in Virginia. Once I stopped playing basketball, there was a gaping whole in my world. I started making horrible decisions and I was heavily involved in the party scene. I spun into a bout of depression, and the only thing that I could think to do was go to the gym, play basketball, and lift weights. Exercise saved my life! Literally. By making the simple decision and taking that action of working out, the path of my life changed forever. I decided I would become a fitness professional. I graduated from Texas Tech University (GUNS UP!) with my B.S. in Sport and Exercise Science.
From there I followed my ex-husband to Virginia Beach (yes, I was married), where I began my career as a personal trainer. During my stay in Virginia, I graduated from Virginia Career Institute's Massage Therapy program. Currently, I am going after my M.S. in Exercise and Sport Psychology where I hope to help athletes and the serious recreational enthusiast build strategies and mental strengthening techniques that will enhance performance and engrave healthy habits for life. I may be crazy for even thinking this, but a PhD may be in my future. But for now, I'm focusing my energy on the here and now.
So, now that you know a bit more about me, let me give you some little pieces of information that you would never know unless you've known me for a very long time. I grew up in Houston, Texas and I will forever be a Texan! I have lived in Virginia, DC, New York, and I currently live in Pennsylvania I am in introvert by nature, but exercise and sports brings the extrovert out of me. I don't mind spending time alone. Sometimes I prefer it. I am a die-hard Lakers fan! I have been since the 80's. I once had melanoma, but luckily caught it early. I think it's funny when I burp. I love funny movies and it must be obvious that I love to laugh. I use sarcasm probably a bit more than I should. I write poetry. My talent in life is eating! I consider it both a gift and a curse. Seriously, don't take me to a buffet, because I have no shame in stuffing my face. I await the day there is a paleo buffet. I love hip-hop and R&B, but I do listen to classic rock and punk rock, and I have been known to break it down on the dance floor before.
I am co-owner of True Circle Strength in York, PA and love every minute of it. I have private clients that I train on the side, I also work at a local Navy base as a Fitness Consultant part-time, and I am an assistant basketball coach for a middle school in the area. Oh Yeah, and I am in school. My life is entrenched in fitness. I workout 5-6 times a week. I LOVE SQUATS! My most recent accomplishment is placing 1st in the 2012 Iron Lion Open Powerlifting Competition held at Penn State University. I am currently searching for a different competitions and sports to join. Boxing is on my bucket list of things to do.
Now back to the point of all of this:
The reason why I created this blog is to set the stage for physical as well as mental growth for women (men are free to be inspired too). My vision is to provide a platform for women of all ages that promotes fitness, health, sport, and achievement. In essence, I want to help build a community of fit and confident women via The MissFit Movement. I believe that sharing is essential in motivating, inspiring, and educating those around us to strive for more in life.
Do you have a dream? Is there a goal that you have thought about for a very long time, but thought as a woman it was impossible to attempt let alone succeed in reaching? You're not alone. BUT perception is not reality. Through The MissFit Movement I want to encourage women to believe in themselves, take action, and take control of their lives!
This blog was designed to share stories of inspiration, triumph, and success of women of all ages and backgrounds. I believe that by providing others with testimonies of strong and fit women it can inspire someone out there to change their life for the better. Even if this site helps one person, it's purpose has been served. Please help me in creating something special and empowering women through The MissFit Movement.
I invite you to read and enjoy the posts of The MissFit Movement and even contribute to it by sharing your stories. Join the movement! Email me your story and share with the world. L.brittneyrussell@gmail.com
