Determination

Today I am Missfit, because I am DETERMINED!  I will not be moved by distraction.  I know what I want and I will not let anything stand in my way.  When I woke up this morning the first thing on my mind was my goal and how wonderful it is going to feel once I achieve it.  There will always be obstacles and challenges that present themselves…but that is a part of life and nothing can slow me down.  I must reach my dreams!  I am determined.

In the morning when I am tired, I will get up and get after it.  No matter the weather...rain, snow, or sleet are not determining factors as to if I go for my run…I am my determining factor and I am determined.  If I have to work late or handle family obligation I will, but I will also handle my personal obligations.  My obligation is to not quit!  I set the standard…I am the standard.  I am a force.

Better Than You

I'm better than you.
I hope you know who I'm talking to,
because I'm talking to you.
You might not believe it now.
But when it's all said and done...
everyone will know it's true.
I'm faster.
I'm stronger.
I work harder.
I work longer.
You can't match my skill.
I know you wish you could,
But let's be real!
I'm just better than you.
-L. Brittney Russell

Still I Rise by Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Committed

Today I am MissFit because I am COMMITTED.  I’m committed to the cause!  You might ask yourself what that cause is.  Well, let me tell you.  The cause is me!  I am committed to being a better me physically, mentally, and spiritually.  I am committed to being a better athlete, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, lover….a better woman.  Every minute, Every second, I am committed to the cause.  Even when I don’t feel like doing anything, I must push myself and take action in order to reach my dream.  Not completing my goals is not an option.  I must push through and accomplish the tasks that I set out to do, because that is what makes me better in life.  That is what creates a better me, and like I said…I am committed to the cause.  Today is my day to show the world that I am committed.
I commit to being a better me so that others can see what is possible and aspire to be better themselves.  If one pebble can create a ripple in a pond…can you imagine the effect that one woman can have to inspire another woman?  Commit to your cause.  If you have a dream…commit.  If you have a goal…commit.  If you want to lose 25 pounds…commit.  If you want to get a muscle up…commit.  If you want to back squat 200 pounds…commit.  If you want to run a marathon…commit.  Commit, commit, COMMIT!  You never know what greatness lies ahead if you don’t push forward whole heartily.  Put 100 % into being your absolute best so that when the day is over you have no regrets and the world can see that you are MissFit.

A True MissFit "Standing up" to Raise Awareness

An estimated 250,000 women die every year from cervical cancer, and 45-year-old Michele Baldwin recently found out that she may be among those statistics within the years end.  This mother of 3 was informed that her diagnosis of cervical cancer is metastasizing aggressively and fast.  Michele has decided that she is not going to take this laying down.  As a matter of fact, she wants to raise awareness about HPV and Cervical Cancer by standing up...stand up paddle boarding that is...down India's Ganges River.  She plans on beginning her 700 mile voyage October 21st.  This brave MissFit has a goal to raise $100,000 during the course of her journey for the Global Initiative Against HPV and Cervical Cancer http://www.giahc.org/

When asked why she is doing this, Michele thoughtfully replied that she wanted "to inspire others to live to the end."  To learn more about Michele Baldwin and her story please visit her website, StarryGanga.com and contribute to help this MissFit "live to the end."

Bring It!

Today I am feeling strong.  Real.  Freakin'. Strong.  I am invincible.  I can do all that I want to.  I have the eye of the tiger.  There is nothing I can't do.  If I want to PR on a deadlift...then I will.  If I want to do 100 pullups...then I will.  If I want to run a 10k...then I will.  If I want to climb a mountain...then I will.  I will!  Do you get it yet?  Nothing.  No one can stop me.  Mentally, I am as tough as nails.  Physically, I am a beast.  I train for the sake of training.  I train for the unknown and unknowable.  That means that I'm a freakin' beast.  That means that I'm ready for anything that life has to throw at me.  Did I mention that I'm strong?  Did I mention that I'm fast?  Did I mention that I'm powerful?  That means that I'm not scared.  I'm not scared of anything.  Your heavy weights don't intimidate me.  Your long runs won't slow me down.  Your steep hills won't hold me down.  You don't scare me!  I'm ready!  Bring it!
